Move Over Ugly Duckling, The Clayton State Swan is Here!

By:  Maria Brown

One of the first things that I noticed during my first visit to Clayton State University was the beautiful "Swan Lake."  Swan Lake brings a certain level of peacefulness and calm to everyone around it.  The swan, itself, is a graceful and somewhat majestic creature.  However, if you inquire about the legend of Clayton State's swan population, you'll find out there is so much more to the swan than meets the eye.  Legend tells a tale of numerous Clayton State staff members who were dedicated to keeping the swan population alive.  In the past, when a swan on campus died, not only did the school raise money to purchase another one, but the entire school came together to decide a name for the new resident in Swan Lake.

At Clayton State University, the swan represents hope, determination, and life.
