CSU Imagery

 Meet "LOCH"

   Barbara Latimer

Do you recognize the image to your left?  It is the one and only Clayton State University (CSU) LOCH mascot.  The image was taken from an advertisement encouraging CSU students to show their school pride and accessorize their car at the same time.  You don’t own a car, yet?  No problem.  Someone you have control over--I mean have influence with--must have a car.

The CSU LOCH is a mystical character and a visual representation of the fierceness of CSU's student body to excel academically and athletically.  In observance of his Scottish-American ancestry and proclivity for privacy, he doesn’t publicize where he lives, what he eats, or his secret to eternal youth, but he is always there when we need him.  Legend has it that he is a hybrid carbon based life form, but it would be bad luck to pry.   LOCH is, however, the quintessence of CSU fortitude, optimism, and uniqueness.  He survived campus construction, Mute Swan interlopers, and global warming to shriek encouragement for CSU athletes and to demurely applaud the graduates.  Students need to follow his lead and embrace all things CSU.   After all, he can trace his lineage back to 565 A.D., so he must know something most people don’t.
